Stairway to success - Think Communications' photography competition
It may not have been the National Geographic Photo Contest but Think Communications’ associates and clients showed creative and competitive flair in a photography competition judged by professional press photographer Alex Rumford this week.
The entrants were all amateur photographers (as well as clients and associates of Think Communications) who benefitted from a fantastic masterclass from Alex where he shared what he’s learned from decades as a professional photographer. But no equipment was required beyond an iphone. We were encouraged to see the world as a series of shapes, lines and shadows. Alex also showed us how to make the most of the editing tools on a smartphone. An overriding message was the joy and mental health benefits of taking time out to focus on the lovely sights that surround us even as our world feels like it is shrinking.
Well done to Think Communications’ associate Ambika Kucheria for this winning photo taken on the steps of the British Museum. This was the favourite of Alex and participants.
Our very own Sam Burne James had a more prosaic interpretation of stairs with this shot which impressed Alex with its shadows and abstract form.
Other photos that drew praise were these by Ed Mayo of Pilotlight, Hester Abrams of (and at) Willesden Jewish Cemetery and Think’s Julie Kangisser and Alice Burgess.
Maybe this will inspire you to take some time out of the day today to capture a few things that catch your eye? And do check out Alex Rumford for corporate or press photography or his photography masterclasses. Highly recommended.
